Cooking is Fun in NZ: Blueberries Mini meat patties 蓝莓酸甜咕鲁肉

Kia Ora Dear readers,

Summer a wonderful season in New Zealand, well I still recall bees everywhere and when I was so allergically affected to pollen in this season. But one thing comes to my mind “snap” blueberries season.

It was after a go-round south island tour and then we straight head on the North to pick blueberries somewhere near Hamilton and Cambridge. It was not fun at all about the wages but we were happy with our working life. Pick blueberries starting in end of December till April (estimation)

What would you do ?? with blueberries in case your boss gave them to you for free or you bought it so super-cheap, like a whole 1kg bag just for $2 dollars. It might not be the best grade, but we still can put them into our stomach.

Making Blueberry cheese cake, blueberry ice-cream or agar-agar it could be really lame. Because it all dessert.

Lets make something really fusion.. I mean it is “very fusion” or “exotic” or “bizarre”

Meet the meat with Blueberries.. Well it is something we call Ku Lou Yuk 酸甜咕鲁肉
it will be a 蓝莓酸甜咕鲁肉

Ingredients:

  1. Mince meat (your choice of quantity, suggest just chicken will be good)
  2. Blueberries (300-500 grams)
  3. salt, pepper, flour, little-bit of soy-sauce (tiny little tea-spoon)
  4. sugar and water (50grams to 100 grams, and it depends the ripeness of blueberries)

Method:

  1. Add in salt, pepper, flour, soy sauce into the mince meat, mix it well until you feel the stickiness and make them into patty shapes, round shapes, balled shapes – any shapes you like.
  2. Chop blueberries- ready to use.
  3. Heat an oiled pan, put in the meat and let them pan fry become golden brown. Take it out and let them dry out from oil. (Backpackers have no budget to buy kitchen tissue)
  4. Heat a pan (you can use the oiled pan before but make sure you wash it first), add in sugar, water, blueberries and let all of them boil-melt together and caramelized. Keep it boiling in low heat
  5. Put all the fried meat into the boiling blueberry-pool, slightly mix them, and turn it off.

Plate it on and garnish some chopped blueberries and mint on top.

Voila

My suggestion > Eat it with rocket salad and shredded par-meson cheese (I love rocket salad)

If you are lazy enough, just buy a pack of sausage, nuggets or ready-to-cook meat ball.

Setia Walk - Puchong Wawasan 大上海 Grand ShangHai, 豪大大鸡排Large Fried Chicken, 东京厨房Tokyo Kitchen

It had always been a hang out place while I was working around Puchong for previous years. Newly build, clean and not crowded are the points I love this place and it keeps changing. During before Christmas season, I was back to here and had a short walk around. It was not impressive due to the gloomy weather.

First of all, I was not suiting the environment in Malaysia while I just back from New Zealand. It is so hold and terribly hazy all around. Same to my housing area because of MRT construction is going on and unstable, uneven of housing and building development all around Klang Valley and it is totally making me so sick for this month.

Puchong has still some wonderful and clam places if we search in deep, unless, you will be stacked in LDP's car by car queue every morning or get yourself flooded to knee-level under IOI mall car park area. Thanks to those IOI development that brought so polluted air to the environment all that area. While people are coming settle their house in Puchong or in Klang Valley making a lot more congested.

An electric snowman in the fountain.

It did not blink in the day

I am so missing you my Salmon Fish.

This cost NZD4.99 in New Zealand. 1NZD=RM2.7(common)

It is lovable salt ever during our Working Holiday.

Here is the Grand Shanghai situated at the top floor of the Setia Mall. Well designed vintage atmosphere but still the same saying where this place is not crowded and many things are like working on process.

We did not spend our cash here as they are expensive as we thought. However, things and food are vary to search but price is not that low as impressive, food are generally found. If you expect to give yourself a good-pleasure-eating day, please try.

Large Fried Chicken on the same floor as Grand Shanghai which one piece of it costs around RM7 or RM14++ in a combo set. It tastes averagely good as I have long time since a year did not have such fried-up-spice piece of chicken. Yummy. But, it took time and some does not like the flour taste as it somehow tastes flour if uneven bites.

Special day and timing and we got Buy one get one free Starbucks Tiramisu and Vanilla without COFFEE. Can you imagine that we request them not to put any caffeine? Hahahahaha.

I had farewell dinner a year before exactly at this place and the food were so good. We came here during the normal working hour on a normal working day, expect no one will bother and disturb and we sat in really quite zone. Then we order the set lunch from the menu.

It was quite disappointing on Udon noodle soup taste not good and it was so lame.  I understand when it comes to the promotion timing especially set lunch menu, the restaurant should have no doubt on putting down its quality on food due to it is promotional food costs. Every meal should have equal treat regardless whether it is "cheap or expensive" timing.

My friend request to change the plain soup to curry soup from them, well they OK with it. But it is just a curry paste add on top of some miso-type soup. No sincerity of serving it.

Overall, the judgement to conclude this meal is " IT IS A LUNCH SET MEAL". Price is above cheapest, but food and quality is cheap.

However, I still love the environment here.

Hanwoori Korean Food

Seriously not a huge fan of Korean Food. Having gathering with Silv's Friends at Ampang Korean Village ( as how I call).

Come and go, nothing's huge variety of Korean food unless the Barbeques, side dishes always come with a main order, spicy hot soups. Bimbibap where most of it has no salty taste that I thought.

The meat from the Barbeques are really delicious and moist. And other mains are too plain of taste for me. Bimbibap took most of the time to consume as its huge portion vege rice.

Spicy seafood soup.

Chocolate cake

To ease my super bored day while raining unstoppable outside makes me can't go anywhere. I would just like to take this little experiment that I recently viewed on Facebook page that I do not need any flour to make a cake, instead a skill in it.

I will take this challenge as I ruined it several times and I believe the experience will smooth-en my baking skills.

1. 3 eggs
2. sugar
3. Chocolate blocks or chips.

Without flour..

1. Separate the egg yolks and egg white into different bowls.
2. Ready a bowl of chocolate blocks and chips (I use Hershey chocolate chips and it is super GOOD), melt it under heat (I melt it with hot water heating it)

3. This is the special part. Make sure the egg white (3) and sugar stir constantly and the mixer works well until it presents white in color and firm texture.

3. Chocolate (melted) ready. Add 3 egg yolks together and mix it up

4. Mix both of them into a bowl.

5. Get Ready a mold (Prefer the cupcake molds)

6. Bake it under preheated oven 190 C around 30 minutes. I kept supervising it as my oven does not work really well. And then, you can enjoy your cake then. Yum.

Hakka Noodle and Chicken Skin @ Equine DaZhong大众美食

Eating Chicken skin always may cause disease and sickness while you read some medical article. But eating them occasionally does not count and it is definitely exceptional.

We ordered a small portion of Rojak Rm5 yesterday night but the service was extremely bad and the taste was just too normal for me.

We'll then consider to order a small portion of fried sotong (squid) but they do not have it instead we ordered fried chicken skin lastly.

Still remember I'm a huge fan of chicken skin and I always bought it from the Malay Pasar Malam during my early working days in Klang Valley. Can't resist to the crunchy and oil burst with munchy texture. It costs RM3 and it worth try ever. Yum.

It is very small portion of this Hakka Noodle and it costs RM6 for this set. The pork meat was full of peppery spice and taste normal for the noodle. It does not have the very plain Hakka Taste as I have been tasted Hakka dish before.
